How Do You Read An Exercise Bike Review?

  1. Look at the overall score first. It runs from 1 to 5.
  2. Scan the category scores for the one that matters most to you, such as comfort or noise.
  3. Read the pros and cons to see what the bike asks you to give up.
  4. Check the label beside the score to see how much testing sits behind it.
  5. Line up two bikes on the same 6 categories before you choose.

What Does Each Score Mean?

  • 5.0: matched everything the manufacturer promises, with no weak spots we could find
  • 4.0: strong overall, with one limitation you would notice on regular rides
  • 3.0: gets the job done, with clear tradeoffs
  • 2.0: has problems you would notice on regular rides
  • 1.0: misses a basic expectation or has a defect

What Do The Score Labels Mean?

  • Scored: tested hands-on by us, or by a named independent tester, across all 6 categories.
  • Capped at 4.5: one short session, under an hour, holds the score at 4.5 until a second session or an independent test confirms it.
  • Not yet scored: there is not enough testing for a number, so the review shows none.
  • First Look: a new or upcoming bike covered with confirmed specs only.
